Afkortingen en acroniemen in veiligheidsinformatiebladen en andere teksten handelend over milieu, gezondheid en arbeidsveiligheid

Belangrijke opmerking voor MSDS vertalers en auteurs: De afkortingen en letterwoorden in deze lijst komen uit veiligheidsinformatiebladen en andere HSE-documenten die wij in de loop der jaren hebben vertaald. De lijst wordt hier gepubliceerd met het enige doel u te helpen bij de interpretatie van de soms cryptische afkortingen die vaak in VIB's worden gebruikt. Het feit dat een bepaalde afkorting of acroniem in de lijst voorkomt, houdt op geen enkele wijze een aanbeveling voor gebruik in. Sommige afkortingen/acroniemen zijn algemeen aanvaard en komen in vrijwel elk VIB voor (bijv. LC50, LEL), terwijl andere vrij obscuur zijn en misschien moeilijk verstaanbaar voor de gebruiker (bijv. UNK, n.o.s.). Wij bevelen aan om enkel algemeen aanvaarde termen te gebruiken in veiligheidsdocumenten. Bij het opstellen of vertalen van MSDS'en dient u ook steeds voor ogen te houden dat de aangeboden informatie voor iedereen verstaanbaar moet zijn en zo duidelijk mogelijk moet worden geformuleerd.
